Recycling Winnipeg

We REUSE First, and Recycle second!

Carlos Computers / E-waste Service on a Silver Platter

Manitoba residents beware! Most of these computers being recycled don't need to be. Some E-programs are just garbage collectors...“But even with a drop-off site, how do you get it there? And what do they do with it? Most of the time they crunch it and send it to a landfill..."

Many are in heavy demand by local charities, non profit groups, poor people in Manitoba, Canada, and all over the world.   We are looking for support on a class action appeal for change. We call on individuals, all hospitals, schools, and organizations of all kind to look at our Reuse/recycling program.

Currently landfills across Manitioba, and many government organizations are unnecessarily disposing of old computers, when they can be used by people here and abroad. We fix and upgrade many of these donated systems. Our IT team is happy to work on old systems and make them new again. We buy local products to upgrade. With our program we create new jobs for IT enthusiasts. We help the local economy with the purchase of new computer products. We have many outstanding requests for old rebuilt computers from all over Winnipeg, and can be sale them at then store as low as $100.00 a form of economic aid to help these communities access information, educate children, etc.

We got them up and running to be use again. . If you have an old laptop or computer that somebody else could use, please bring it to us! Don’t worry if that system is broken we do our best to fix it and get them on the road again.

Now you can donate your old laptops, laptop parts and laptop accessories. All hard drives, DVD, CD-ROMs, loose PC boards / cards, all cables, all retail packaged / sealed software, all networking equipment (hubs, routers, switches, etc.). Call us to find out more about what else we will take.

Computer Toxicity

The concern over electronic waste revolves around the toxic nature of the components that make up a computer. Typically, 23% of a computer is plastic, 32% is ferrous metal, 18% is non-ferrous metal (lead, cadmium, antimony, beryllium, chromium, and mercury), 12% is precious metal (gold, palladium, silver, and platinum) and 15% is glass. Cathode-ray monitors tend to raise the most concern. They can contain up to four pounds of lead and because this lead is in a soluble form, it is highly susceptible to leaching. In 2002, CBC Marketplace reported on a study done by the University of Florida on lead leaching in CRT's. The study found that when crushed, CRT glass exceeded the U.S. maximum allowable concentrations of 5 mg of lead per litre of water (the Canadian standard is far stricter at 0.010 mg/L) (CBC Marketplace, 2002). Crushing the glass into pieces smaller than 5 millimeters resulted in lead leaching of up to 400 milligrams per litre. The study strongly recommended that CRT monitors be kept out of landfills and treated as toxic waste.
To further complicate matters, the plastic used to house CRT monitors and insulate cables contain brominated flame retardants linked to endocrine gland disorders and issues affecting lactation in expectant mothers. Burning these plastics releases dioxin, accepted to be one of the most hazardous substances due to the changes it inflicts on ones molecular make up.

We need your help to spread the news around the community.

Carlos Computers has a new recycling program to help people with low income, new professionals and Immigrants en general with affordable Computing equipment.

here is the all enchilada!

Let's all do our part to help the environment.

Recycle your old computers, monitors, printers and other computer accessories with Carlos Computer Recycling Program.

Every day, thousands of computers, monitors, and electronic goods are dropped off at your local dump. Many of these items are in good working conditions plus same items contain hazardous materials, such as lead, cadmium, and mercury. However, there are also recoverable materials such as metals, glass, and some plastics, which can be used again, which potentially can save the use of new resources. Also many individuals and low budget organizations can take advantage of this service.

The alternative to the dump? Carlos Computer Recycling Program. Find out more about what we offer, by checking our services, how to contact us, and some more thoughtful information about recycling. call 204 415 7699
